A man of vision, worship, and integrity, Bishop A.J. Freeman is a man who strives for excellence in all his endeavors. He holds many titles including author, musician, speaker, father, husband, brother, son, nephew, and friend. His ministry vision is centered around honoring, worshiping, and blessing the name of the Lord Jesus.
A.J. Freeman was born in Batavia, NY, and was the second of three children born to Overseer K. Faye and Deacon David R. Freeman Sr. After two years in New York, the family moved back to Ohio where they were both born and raised. They settled in Springfield, Ohio, where A.J. received his spiritual foundation from his family and church. He grew up in a large Christian family where humorous family gatherings were common, often leading to laughter and tears. It was in this environment that Bishop Freeman learned the value of laughter.
A.J. Freeman attended and graduated from Springfield City Schools where he excelled in the music programs. He received awards and accolades for his talents in high school and was granted a scholarship to Central State University in Music Education and Performance. After his studies ended, he worked in theater and starred in numerous productions.
He toured with the national musical play "Tell Hell I Ain’t Coming". He held a leading role in which he starred alongside Vanessa Bell Armstrong and Ali Woodson of the Temptations along with other well-known celebrities.
Between the years of 1991 and 2003, Elder Freeman moved across the country and served in various music and youth ministries for the Church of God in Christ organization and was elevated from Brother Freeman to Elder Freeman. He also began his family during this time and his 3 sons were born. Anthony Jr., Tyler, and Travis; who are his proudest achievements. In 2003, Elder Freeman relocated to Columbus, Ohio where he accepted the position of worship leader and his anointing and gift of worship became evident.
After much fasting and prayer in 2006, Elder Freeman accepted his calling as Pastor and Tree of Life Ministries was established. The vision of Tree of Life Ministries is set upon the foundation of worship; in which Pastor Freeman has dedicated his life. In April 2012, Pastor Freeman released a solo music CD, entitled "The Lord is Good to Me" but then felt the need to put his music on hold. Pastor Freeman wanted to focus on his ministry and church. He was elevated to the office of Bishop in 2017 in the Celebration of Praise Ministries organization.
2022 was an exciting year for Bishop Freeman as he was appointed Jurisdictional Prelate of the Ohio North Jurisdiction and elevated to the Executive Board in the Celebration of Praise Ministries (Presiding Prelate - Archbishop Q.S. Caldwell), wrote and published his first book, “Are You Serious?”, and married his beautiful wife, Karohnda. In 2025, he humbly embraced the responsibility to serve Faith Temple in Orwell, OH, and completed his second book, “A Journey from Truth to Revelation”.
We will see many more things to come from Bishop Freeman. It remains to be seen all that the Lord will continue to do in his life. But knowing that his foundation is sure, Bishop Freeman will grow, learn, and love in his devotion to his family, his church, his ministry, and most of all, to God.
